Assistant Pastor
Position Title: Assistant Pastor
Reports to: Primary Lead Pastor
Secondary Staff Parish Relations Committee
Work Hours: Full-Time Salaried employee
Benefits: Expense Reimbursable
Pension match up to 3% in simple IRA
Summary: The Assistant Pastor will work closely with the Lead Pastor to foster a culture of connection, spiritual depth, and impactful ministry. This role requires a visionary leader with a heart for people, a passion for service, and the ability to cultivate strong relationships within the church and the broader community.
Main Responsibilities
- Preach one Sunday a month at each of the Sunday services.
- Cultivate and manage hospitality team, with a focus on growing it and creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
- Implement follow-up strategies to help first-time visitors feel connected to the church family.
- Cultivate, lead, and manage a team of volunteers as needed.
- Develop programs to equip volunteers for effective service, ensuring they feel valued and supported.
- Promote volunteer engagement through appreciation events, training sessions, and regular communication.
- Work with First Church DeLand leadership and members to effectively communicate the goals and mission of First Church DeLand.
- Work with administrative staff to make sure everything is running smoothly.
- Provide pastoral support through counseling, visitations, and spiritual guidance for church members in need.
- Assistant with teaching a weekly Bible Study.
- Develop and support life groups, providing resources and oversight to ensure their effectiveness in discipleship and community building.
- To develop and oversee a ministry to our young families and singles.
- Work with department heads to evaluate and improve ministry effectiveness and alignment with the church’s vision.
- Assist with visioning and the implementation of new ministry opportunities.
- Attend weekly staff/ministry team meetings for visioning and planning.
- Assist is organizational meetings that occur once a month.
- Other duties as needed by Lead Pastor.
Qualifications
- A love for Jesus, and a commitment for the mission and vision of First Church DeLand.
- A strong connector who is able to work with people of all backgrounds, ages, races and genders.
- Willing to be teachable and to grow with the requirements of the position and church. A desire to learn and grow in all aspects of your life.
- Self-motivated and able to look for ways to jump in and help as well as being able to work within a team setting.
- A heart to serve, and the ability to cultivate that in others. Helping people find their place, and use their God-given gifts for the glory of God
- Be able to clearly communicate goals, visions, and plans with volunteers and staff members. Be able to share the “why” with each team that you are apart of.
- A heart for discipleship and training to be able to equip the body of Christ to leave the campus and be the church wherever God has placed them.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may reach, climb, walk, stand, stoop, drive, balance or push to complete job task. Employee may work in an office environment or in occasional outdoor video productions. May work in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment.
